Hubby and I watched "The Hills Have Eyes" (the remake) last night and I have to say that it affected me. Usually I can watch anything and not have it bother me (with the exception of "The Grudge" - that frickin' ghost scared the crap out of me!), but I had bad dreams about it all night long. It's very, very graphic and not for the faint of heart! I expected nothing less from the writers/director as the last film they did was extremely graphic. It was called "High Tension" and is in french as the writers/director are from France. They seem to be fans of reality in horror and I think that is what makes their films so scary. "The Hills Have Eyes" is their first American film and they didn't disappoint. They managed to keep most of the stuff from the original (from what I remember of it anyway) and add enough new stuff to keep it fresh and scary. The make-up for the hill dwelling mutants was incredible and upon watching the special features afterward, I found myself fascinated with how they made them look so real. It apparently was a combination of make-up and CGI effects. They blend seamlessly and are a real treat to watch. One character puts a shotgun under his chin and blows his head totally apart. It was pretty wild! You can tell that the filmmakers had fun doing it and that they were real fans of Wes Craven's original film. I recommend it for those who are feeling brave and have a strong stomach!
