So the furry "kids" bought their Daddy a couple of DVD's for Father's Day. He got "KIngdom of Heaven" 4 disc director's cut and "Underworld:Evolution". We watched "Underworld:Evolution" last night and the thing I love the most about the two Underworld movies is that they try to use "real" effects as much as possible instead of CGI effects. Hubby loves them because he loves looking at Kate Beckinsale in a rubber catsuit. They use guys in werewolf suits as much as humanly possible and I love it!! When CGI was first getting used it was like, Wow!! Look at that! Now it's just getting old and I found that I was getting annoyed with CGI more than being amazed by it. I longed for the days of stunt guys in rubber suits and miniature effects. After watching the movie, we perused the special features and watched the featurettes about the making of the movie. There they showed how they used stunt guys in suits as much as possible and how they built special rigs for the wires and how they improved on the werewolf suits that they used on the first film. I was impressed how they used live action and some CGI relatively seamlessly. I was also surprised to find out that they were very close to getting a NC-17 rating because of the violence. For those who don't know, an Nc-17 rating in the States is like box office poison because it prohibits anyone under the age of 17 in to see the movie. An R rating in the States allows minors under 17 to be accompanied by an adult so almost all "adult" movies reach for the R rating. I guess they had to be especially careful with the final battle sequence between the two main good guys and the two main bad guys. It's pretty gory and incredibly cool the way the baddies are killed and they had to watch that they didn't go too overboard and give the ratings board a heart attack, but I think they did an excellent job. I rather enjoyed it , but then I'm kind of biased seen as I tend to be a softie for vampire and werewolf movies. I look forward to a third one if there will be such a thing. I hear that Kate and her director husband might be on the outs so we'll have to see if they can work together for a third one. My fingers are crossed...
