Just saw "Iron Man"...and I gotta say...WOW!! It was even better than I expected (and I expected a lot).
Usually I like to see movies as soon as they come out so I can get a fresh perspective before all the reviews come out, but even after reading everything and hearing the HUGE grosses, I still was vastly impressed. It was so nice to see movie that had a great script, great actors and a great director. Jon Favreau really outdid himself on this one. He's so money and he doesn't even know it (ha ha). Robert Downey, Jr. has been resurrected from B-list oblivion and once again has established himself as one of the great actors of our generation. Back in the 80's I always thought he was destined for greatness, but then he crashed and burned. But he pulled himself out of ashes, cleaned up, matured and is one sexy beast! Yu-um! Speaking of sexy beasts, Terrance Howard was a good choice for Rhodes. Too bad he's such a freak 'cuz he is fine!
I loved the Iron Man comics as a kid and was excited to see the suit. Bravo!! It was even cooler than I expected. It was very well done and when Tony flies for the first time, I had goosebumps! The scenes with Tony as Iron Man were phenomonal. Maybe it was just me but they actually made the suit look kinda sexy. Iron Man had a sexy gait. Weird but true.
It was an origin story but it didn't dwell on it or make it the entire movie. I liked that. It got to the point early and didn't piss around with pointless crap like so many other origin movies tend to do (Spider-Man...I'm pointing at you). The script was surprisingly good considering they reported having all sorts of script problems early on in production. It didn't show at all. It was fast moving, clever, witty, sexy, action packed, and emotional. It had a heart and the human drama didn't weigh it down at all. It was well integrated and a pleasure to watch.
I think Marvel chose the right movie to finance on their own. They're laughing all the way to the bank and I for one applaud them for having the courage to step up and back a movie about a hero that not everyone liked. Tony Stark can be a selfish, pompous ass but under Jon Favreau's direction turned out to be a likable guy. I think it was great move on their part...bravo Marvel!
Anyone who hasn't seen it yet should go because it is one of the great surprises of 2008! You won't be disappointed!! Trust!
