Last Friday was Hubby's birthday and it was also Good Friday so we both had the day off. Jokingly, I said we should go to a matinee since we had nothing else to do that day. He said okay and I said let's go see "Grindhouse" knowing full well he did not want to see it but I wanted to see it badly. He said okay and off we went.
The crowd was full of fanboys but that's my kind of crowd so it was all good. The start time came and went and no movie. Everyone was getting impatient, so someone went to find an usher to tell them that we had no movie. Half an hour went by before it started. Apparently the projectionist forgot to start the movie. Last time I checked, it wasn't rocket science.
Anyhoo, once it started, it was FRICKIN' AWESOME!! 3 hours and 11 minutes of pure cheeze (yes it's so cheesy you have to use a "z"). It was great! It starts out with a trailer for "Machete" that is pure fun! Then Robert Rodriguez' "Planet Terror" starts. It's full of scratches and burns just like an old crappy copy of a 70's exploitation flick. It totally adds to the ambience. It even had a missing reel (of course where the sex scene would be). Rose McGowan's machine gun leg was fantastic and the music (written by Robert Rodriguez) was perfect. The main title theme was especially cool! It was a fun, explosive, funny popcorn flick. When it was over, the crowd actually clapped.
Next during the "intermission" were trailers for more "movies". They were soooo great! Suffice it to say that Eli Roth (Hostel & Cabin Fever) is one sick puppy! He did the trailer for "Thanksgiving" and it ended with a pretty sick visual.
The second feature was Quentin Tarantino's "Death Proof". It was slower and more talky than "Planet Terror"(like most of his movies usually are), but once the car chase scene came into play, it picked up. Kurt Russell plays a greasy perv a little too well if you ask me.
All in all, I highly recommend "Grindhouse". It's a fun time at the movies (especially if you like lots of gore cuz there was a TON of it!!)!

I wonder why so few are going to this movie. To quote Tony the Tiger..."It's Great!"
